Police in Sheema District are investigating the circumstances under which a 40-year-old man was kidnapped and thrown into a river.
The incident happened on January 14, 2025, at about 2:00 PM in Kitamba Cell, Kibanga East Parish, Kitagata Subcounty, Sheema District.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the victim as Brian Agaba, a 40-year-old peasant resident of the above-mentioned address.
Tumusiime further said police have arrested two suspects, identified as Andrew Twijukye, 37, a taxi driver, and Edson Ahimbisibwe, 55, a businessman, both residents of Kitamba.
It is alleged that the victim was kidnapped, tied with ropes, and put in a Toyota Wish vehicle with registration number UBA 105S. He was then driven and dumped in the Ntungwa River, which borders Kanungu and Rukungiri Districts.
According to Robert Nuwarimpa, 52, the Chairperson of LC1 for Kitamba Cell, Kibanga East Parish, Kitagata Subcounty, Sheema District, the victim was spotted by a group of boys grazing animals. They raised an alarm, prompting the police to rescue him. He was rushed to St. Annah Health Center for treatment.
