Prominent public policy analyst and technocrat Morrison Rwakakamba has praised President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for championing efforts to bring Starlink satellite internet to Uganda, describing it as a bold step toward achieving the country’s digital transformation goals.
In a statement shared on social media, Rwakakamba expressed strong support for the President’s engagement with Starlink officials, calling the initiative “powerful” and a “leap towards a great technological future for Uganda.” He emphasized that Starlink’s presence would significantly enhance Uganda’s connectivity, drive innovation, and support national development objectives under Uganda Vision 2030 and the National Plan for Sustainable Development.
“Starlink could transform connectivity across Uganda’s hills, plains, and remote terrains, advancing the current 27% internet penetration rate,” Rwakakamba noted. “This will be a game-changer for sectors such as education, health care, disaster response, and particularly micro, small, and medium enterprises, which contribute 80% to Uganda’s GDP.”
The praise comes after President Museveni met with Starlink representatives Ben MacWilliams and Brandi Oliver at State House in Nakasero on Monday. The meeting was facilitated by Ambassador Adonia Ayebare and U.S. Ambassador William Popp, focusing on low-cost internet solutions and plans to establish a Starlink presence in Uganda.
Rwakakamba commended the commitment shown by the Starlink team and welcomed their efforts to bridge the digital divide in hard-to-reach areas. “Their entry into Uganda will not only enhance economic resilience but also empower millions with the tools for innovation and progress,” he said.
