Residents and local leaders from Rwarubira Cell, Rwakabengo, Southern Division, Rukungiri Municipality expelled a woman from their village on Friday, accusing her of engaging in harmful activities.
According to Mr. Medard Mubangizi, the LC1 Chairperson of Rwarubira Cell, the woman in question, identified as Kyomuhendo Shalon, originally from Mububaare Cell, Kahoko, Nyakajeme Sub-county, is married to Orishaba Kenneth, a resident of Rwarubira Cell. She has been repeatedly expelled from the area due to her alleged involvement in witchcraft and violent behavior, including an incident where she physically assaulted her mother-in-law, leaving her injured.
Kyomuhendo was previously expelled from the village and had agreed to leave, staying away for some time. However, she returned last week, after reportedly being expelled from Kitimba for cutting off another woman’s mouth during a fight.
Yesterday, residents and their leaders convened a meeting to discuss her behavior, which they unanimously deemed intolerable, leading to the decision to expel her from the area once again.
Sanyu Felestus, the mother-in-law of the accused, expressed her frustration, stating that Kyomuhendo had attacked her several times in her own home. Despite her efforts to be patient, Sanyu could no longer tolerate Kyomuhendo’s behavior, which had even escalated to physical altercations with leaders who attempted to mediate the conflicts. She added that she has filed numerous reports against Kyomuhendo with the police.
Annah Baricsta, the Rukungiri Municipal Councilor representing Eastern and Southern Division, also supported Kyomuhendo’s expulsion, recounting an incident where Kyomuhendo attempted to assault her when she intervened in a dispute between Kyomuhendo and her husband and mother-in-law. Annah emphasized that Kyomuhendo’s behavior is unacceptable, as she consistently engages in violent confrontations wherever she goes. Residents of Rwarubira decided to expel her from their village because she had started threatening to kill some of the residents.
Residents, led by Dickson Musimenta, resolved during the meeting on August 23, 2024, to expel Kyomuhendo from the village to prevent any further dangerous incidents, given her history of violent behavior.
When approached for comment, Kyomuhendo Shalon refused to speak to the media and left in anger.
