Muslims in Rukungiri District have joined the global Islamic community in observing the holy month of Ramadan, committing themselves to faithfulness, reconciliation and acts of humanity as they seek to draw closer to Allah.
The confirmation of the start of Ramadan was made by Rukungiri District Imam, Sheikh Abdul-Hamidu Iyavala, who called upon believers to embrace prayer, fasting and good conduct throughout the sacred month.
Ramadan, one of the five pillars of Islam, is observed by Muslims worldwide as a period of fasting, spiritual reflection, repentance and charity. The month is dedicated to strengthening one’s relationship with Allah, seeking forgiveness and building moral discipline.
In his message to the faithful, Imam Abdul-Hamidu urged Muslims to prioritize regular prayers at their respective mosques and to faithfully attend Juma prayers every Friday. He emphasized that consistent worship and devotion are key to achieving spiritual growth, forgiveness and inner peace.
He also highlighted the importance of reconciliation and unity within the community. The Imam encouraged believers to avoid bad behavior, resolve differences, and extend kindness to one another, especially by sharing with those in need.
The district Muslim leadership, he noted, is fully prepared to guide and serve the faithful throughout Ramadan, ensuring that mosques remain active centers of worship, teaching and spiritual renewal.
Imam Abdul-Hamidu stressed that the true spirit of Ramadan lies in humanity, commitment and moral transformation. He urged Muslims to use the holy month as an opportunity to overcome temptations, strengthen their faith and seek Allah’s mercy.
As the fasting period begins, Muslims in Rukungiri have expressed renewed dedication to spiritual reflection and community solidarity, hopeful that the month will bring forgiveness, joy and the strength to overcome life’s challenges.
