Educationists in Rukungiri District have embarked on sensitizing the public about children’s safety and welfare during the long holiday to prevent harm to children.

Mr. Ronald Twesigye, the Rukungiri District Inspector of Schools and head of the Guidance and Counseling Department categorized children’s harm as both physical and psychological, caused by strangers and agents of evil.

He urged parents to manage children’s visits to relatives, create time to understand their hobbies and challenges, discourage them from attending unnecessary mourning events, engage them in homestead activities, and provide proper nutrition to secure a bright future for the children.

Mr. Twesigye further implored children to embrace discipline, respect their parents, support their families in homestead activities, and prioritize education for future success.

David Arinaitwe, of Arizona Studio on Karegyesa Road in Rukungiri, emphasized the importance of parental responsibilities, such as preventing redundancy among children, ensuring proper nutrition, and monitoring their movements. However, he noted instances of parental negligence caused by various factors.
