Mrs. Jolly Mashaija, the Women’s Chairperson of Rukungiri District, has issued a plea to the government and charitable individuals to alleviate the residents of Nyarushanje Sub County from the hardship of accessing contaminated water.
Her call was made on Sunday, March 24th, 2024, during the presentation of 5000 water harvesting tanks generously donated by Honorable Natukunda Midius Kaharata. The event took place at Kakomero Church of Uganda in Burora Parish, Nyarushanje Sub County, Rukungiri District.
Mashaija commended Honorable Natukunda Midius Kaharata for the significant donation and emphasized the pressing issue of water scarcity in remote areas like Nyarushanje Sub County. She urged the government and philanthropists to address this issue promptly to safeguard lives.
Mary Tumwesigye, a resident of Kakirago Cell in Burora, highlighted the adverse effects of inadequate hygiene and sanitation resulting from contaminated water in their community.
Twinamatsiko Herbert Mondo, residing in Rwakigona Cell, Burora Parish, underscored the scarcity of water sources in their area, which are often shared with livestock, and appealed for government intervention.
Rev. Enock Kamanyi, the Parish Priest of Kakomero Church of Uganda, expressed gratitude for receiving the water tank donation and pledged to ensure its protection for the benefit of the community.
Natukunda Midius Kaharata, the Woman Member of Parliament for Rukungiri District, urged the recipients to maintain the water tanks properly to prolong their lifespan and mitigate water-related challenges.
