Rukungiri Municipality is on the verge of losing the long-awaited district hospital project to Kebisoni town council due to lack of enough land to accommodate the project.
This was revealed yesterday by the Rubabo County Member of Parliament Hon Naboth Namanya during the Kebisoni Sub County council meeting held at the Sub County headquarters Omukidiba Mabanga.
According to Hon Namanya , Rukungiri Municipality was asked to avail at least 10 acres of land for the project and it failed to which might force the ministry of health to shift the project to Kebisoni town council because of the available space for the Project.
Hon Namanya added that Rukungiri district had initially proposed to construct the facility in Kebisoni town council at the present Kebisoni Health center 4 but the decision was politicized and the project was transferred to Rukungiri health center 4 (Rwamahwa) which doesn’t have enough available space to accommodate the facility.
The Kebisoni LC3 Chairperson Charles Kahanyi disclosed that at the beginning, the Ministry of Health surveyed Kebisoni Health Center 4 and recommendations were positive but this was blocked by self-seekers. He expressed excitement to hear that the project might return to Kebisoni.
In an interview with our reporter, the Rukungiri LCV chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama said that Hon Namanya Naboth is after cheap popularity because the district administration proposed Rukungiri Health center 4 to be built at the former Headquarters of Kagunga Sub County.
The Rukungiri Municipality Member of Parliament Hon Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa who is at the helm of lobbying for this facility says they are not aware of Hon Namanya Naboth’s allegation because plans to start the construction are underway.
