The court in Rukungiri has postponed the case involving MUPA Technical Services, the Rukungiri District Local Government, and Kinombe Nyaruzinga Construction Company Limited to January 16, 2024.
On July 22, 2023, MUPA Technical Services filed a case with the Rukungiri court, accusing the Rukungiri District Local Government of unjustly terminating its contract for the construction of Kebisoni Seed Secondary School in Kebisoni Sub County, Rukungiri District. MUPA also filed a lawsuit against Kinombe Nyaruzinga Construction Company Limited for unauthorized site invasion.
During the recent court session, MUPA’s lawyer urged the court to investigate the sudden contract termination and the multiple adjournments, placing blame on the district. The lawyer requested that the Rukungiri District compensate the costs for the day, amounting to 1 million, a suggestion rejected by the High Court Registrar.
The court adjourned the hearing until January 16, 2024, to allow the respondents to submit written arguments.
MUPA’s lawyer also mentioned that their workers were arrested on July 11, 2023, by a team led by the Rukungiri Deputy RDC and the DPC. The lawyer attributed this incident to the abrupt contract termination and asked the court to admit video evidence depicting the events at the Kebisoni Sub County site that day.
In an exclusive interview, Eng. Godfrey Nshabire, the director of Ketombe-Nyarugunga Construction Company, expressed his frustration with the frequent court appearances. He stated that he began work at Kebisoni Seed Secondary School after the Rukungiri District Local Government had solicited bids for a new contractor, with Kinombe being the highest bidder.
