The Western Division of Rukungiri Municipal Council held an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday to bid farewell to the late Councillor Kazooba Fedel, who served as the Vice Division Chairperson and Representative for the Elderly.
Councillor Kazooba tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident on the Republic Road in Rukungiri Municipality on Sunday, July 20, 2024, around 8:00 PM.
Kamusiime Matthias, the Speaker for the Western Division, praised Late Kazooba for his exemplary time management, leadership skills, and role as a chaplain of the council. Matthias emphasized that such an extraordinary council meeting was fitting to honor his contributions.
Syrivia Katimbira, the Division Chairperson, noted that as the representative for the elderly, Late Kazooba was a valuable advisor and fostered a strong working relationship between the division executive, councilors, and technical staff. She mentioned that the council, which started in 2024 with 15 members, now has only 13, following the loss of both Councillor Arthur Muhaabwa and Late Kazooba.
Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahirwa, the Rukungiri Municipality legislator, urged boda boda riders to exercise greater caution. He pointed out that many accidents in Uganda involve boda boda riders and announced that Parliament is working on regulating boda boda activities. Dr. Rutahirwa also condemned drug abuse among boda boda riders, highlighting that many accidents are caused by riders operating under the influence of alcohol.
