The Rujumbura PFF Coordinator, Liberty Kisakyakatonda, has spoken out following an alleged abduction last weekend, expressing deep fear for his safety and saying he now lives in constant panic.

Kisakyakatonda, who contested for the Bwambara District Councillor seat in the recently concluded general elections and also served as a coordinator for Fred Turyamuhweeza’s 2026 campaign, was reportedly abducted on Friday night at around 10:30 pm. The incident is said to have occurred as he was returning home from work. He was later released in the early hours of Saturday at approximately 3:30 am.

In an interview with Boona Radio on Monday, Kisakyakatonda confirmed the ordeal, stating that he has since been living in fear and is now hesitant to answer unknown phone calls or move at night.

He recounted that while riding home on his motorcycle, he noticed a white double-cabin vehicle with tinted windows and no number plates following him. Upon reaching his destination, he was allegedly approached by unknown individuals who forcibly bundled him into the vehicle. His face was covered using his own sweater, and he was reportedly forced to kneel in a bent position for more than four hours.

During the incident, his bag—containing important documents, including Rujumbura Declaration forms—and his mobile phones were taken. He added that before his phones were confiscated, he was briefly allowed to contact his wife and inform her that he had been kidnapped.

Kisakyakatonda said he was later abandoned at the Ishasha border at around 3:30 am. He waited until morning before reporting the matter to Kihihi Police Station, where he was advised to file the case at Rukungiri Central Police Station, as the alleged crime occurred within that jurisdiction.

He suspects that the incident may be linked to political tensions surrounding an election petition filed by Fred Turyamuhweeza, who is challenging the outcome of the recent general elections in court.

Since the incident, Kisakyakatonda says his health has deteriorated, citing fatigue, anxiety, and emotional distress. He indicated that the experience has forced him to reconsider his involvement in politics, noting that his life now appears to be at risk.

He has called upon Uganda’s security agencies and territorial police to strengthen security measures and ensure the safety of citizens and their property.
