The Kanungu District Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Awuye Abdallah, has warned parish chiefs and town agents against taking bribes while executing their duties. He made the remarks today, 13th April 2026, while addressing a meeting held at the district hall in Kanungu Town Council. The aim of the meeting was to provide guidelines to parish chiefs and town agents on how best they can perform their duties, especially in disbursing and recovering PDM funds.
The CAO acknowledged that it has come to his attention that many parish chiefs and town agents are requesting money while executing their duties, especially those related to PDM. He therefore condemned this, noting that after the detention, no chief or town agent should expect to be saved by the CAO’s office.
Speaking at the same meeting, Nkwasibwe Godwin, the District Production Officer, emphasized the importance of data collection, noting that it helps in evaluation and accountability. He therefore challenged parish chiefs and town agents to collect correct data and submit accurate reports, revealing that this helps authorities evaluate the performance of government programs in different areas.
Additionally, the District Commercial Officer, Calebs Muhanuuzi Owomuhangyi, echoed that parish chiefs and town agents should not be limited to PDM but should also oversee other government programs and projects in their areas. More so, Owomuhangyi acknowledged that while the recovery process for PDM funds is ongoing, some beneficiaries and committees are following wrong procedures.
He therefore revealed that all PDM recoveries should be paid through the mobile platform “WENDI,” and it is the role of parish chiefs and town agents to sensitize people in order to avoid mistakes.
Meanwhile, Niwagaba Rojers, the town agent for Northern Ward, Kanungu Town Council, applauded the district administration for organizing the training, reaffirming his commitment to his work. However, he highlighted a few challenges, including residents who are apathetic about government programs.
