The Rubanda Farmers Association has issued a fervent plea for accountability following allegations of corruption and misappropriation of public funds against the district Woman Member of Parliament (MP) Akampurira Prossy.
The association, representing concerned citizens of Rubanda, expressed deep dismay and outrage over the purported involvement of MP Prossy in the unlawful allocation of a staggering sum of shillings 1.7 billion, including a perplexing personal allocation of shillings 400 million under the guise of “Service Awards.”
The revelation of these allegations has sent shockwaves through the community, shaking the trust and confidence that constituents had placed in their elected representative.
The Rubanda Farmers Association, in a press statement dated 26/03/2024, condemned these actions as an affront to the integrity and accountability expected from public officials, particularly in a country where many struggle to meet basic needs amidst crumbling education and healthcare systems.
In light of these grave accusations, the association has made urgent demands for MP Prossy to take immediate action.
Firstly, they call for the prompt return of the misappropriated funds, emphasizing that these resources belong to the people of Uganda and should be utilized for the betterment of communities, not for personal enrichment. Additionally, they insist on a public apology from MP Prossy, stressing the need for her to acknowledge her wrongdoing and express genuine remorse for betraying the trust of her constituents.
Furthermore, the Rubanda Farmers Association has called for MP Prossy to resign from her role as commissioner of parliament, citing the severity of the allegations and the erosion of public trust. They assert that individuals implicated in corruption and abuse of office cannot be allowed to retain positions of power and influence within the country’s institutions.
The association warns that failure to heed these demands will only further diminish MP Prossy’s credibility and standing as an elected representative. They urge her to prioritize the interests of her constituents and demonstrate the integrity and accountability expected from leaders in a democratic society.
Hon. Prossy has joined the Nyendo-Mukungwe Division MP Mathius Mpuga who is the former leader of the opposition and current commissioner to Parliament. Mpuga has been under scrutiny for allegedly violating the values of the political party he belongs to, the National Unity Platform. This comes after it was revealed that he participated in the distribution of Service Awards.
As the saga unfolds, the people of Rubanda and Uganda at large await MP Prossy’s response, hoping for swift and decisive action to address these troubling allegations and restore faith in the integrity of their elected representatives.
