Thousands of Christians from various backgrounds gathered at St. Peter’s Nyabitete Archdeaconry on Tuesday to witness the installation service of Rev. Enock Karamuzi as the new Archdeacon.
Rev. Karamuzi, formerly the diocesan Secretary of North Kigezi Diocese, was appointed to replace Captain Jallon Atusinguza, who is now serving as the Archdeacon of Rubirizi Archdeaconry in Nyarushanje Sub-County, North Kigezi Diocese.
In his address, Rev. Karamuzi committed to faithfully serving the North Kigezi Diocesan Bishop and his successors, as well as the President of Uganda and future leaders. He pledged to protect and enhance the archdeaconry’s estates.
During his sermon, Ven. Canon David Kabooyi, Archdeacon of Kanaazi Archdeaconry in the Kibungo Diocese of Rwanda, urged clergy to lead their congregations by emulating Jesus, the Good Shepherd. He criticized those who mistreat their congregants by deviating from their teachings, which he deemed unacceptable before God.
The North Kigezi Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe encouraged the clergy to remain diligent in their duties, including praying for the sick and promoting development within their churches.
Canon Sabiiti Mahirane, Head of Laity, noted that Nyabitete Archdeaconry consists of five parishes. He commended the bishop for his efforts in fostering revival and unity within the diocese. The archdeaconry is engaged in various initiatives, including coffee, tea, and banana cultivation, and is constructing a new archdeaconry church. They also plan to expand the number of parishes.
Nyabitete Church of Uganda was established as an archdeaconry in 2013, with Venerable Canon Eldard Kashanje as the first archdeacon, followed by Ven. James Busingye, Ven. Captain Jallon Atusinguza, and now Ven. Enock Karamuzi as the fourth archdeacon.
On behalf of Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi, who was scheduled to be the guest of honor, Rukungiri District Chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama assured the congregation that efforts to extend electricity to previously underserved areas have commenced. He urged the community to cooperate and take advantage of this opportunity.
