A group of NRM youth supporters in Rukungiri, led by Tunbul Akampa Rugaba, a national coordinator with the Youth Leaders Coalition for a Better Uganda (YLCBU), has praised the youth for their efforts to combat corruption in Uganda.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday in Rukungiri town, Akampa highlighted that the demonstration to Parliament was a clear signal to leaders that the youth are fed up with corruption scandals that have stalled Uganda’s development.
He emphasized that, as supporters of the NRM, they will not tolerate corruption at any level, from national to local councils. The youth are encouraged to remain vigilant, particularly regarding government programs like the Parish Development Model and Emyooga, where corruption is most prevalent.
They also condemned the police and military brutality faced by the youth during today’s demonstration, asserting that every Ugandan has the right to free speech and expression.
Akampa Rugaba acknowledged that while there are calls for the resignation of Speaker Anita Among due to concerns over the misuse of taxpayer money, she has also contributed positively by passing significant laws, such as the anti-homosexuality bill. He suggested that instead of demanding her resignation—which is unlikely to succeed—Ugandans should focus on voting out corrupt leaders at the end of their terms to ensure a corruption-free Parliament.
