Police in Kabale District have launched investigations into the suspected murder of a woman only identified as Patricia, a resident of Nyabushabi Cell in Kyanamira Sub-county, after her body was discovered in the compound of Nyakijumba Catholic Church on Sunday morning.

According to Kigezi Region Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, the body was found abandoned at around 9:00 am on 30 November 2025.

Police visited, examined, and documented the scene. When a sniffer dog was introduced, it led detectives to the home of the deceased’s alleged lover, whose house is located next to the church. The suspect is currently on the run.

Investigators found visible drag marks on the ground leading from the suspect’s home to the church compound, suggesting that Patricia may have died inside the house, which is being treated as the primary crime scene. During a search inside the house, police recovered pieces of a mattress and blanket soaked with suspected bodily fluids. These items have been taken for forensic analysis.

Preliminary findings indicate that the body may have been kept inside the house for about three days before being moved and dumped at the church earlier in the morning.

The body has been taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination as inquiries continue.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect to assist with the investigations.
