The territorial police in Rukungiri are searching for a motorcyclist involved in a fatal accident that resulted in the death of a 45-year-old woman, Sikola, a resident of Kashenyi Cell, Kabwooma Parish, Nyakagyeme Sub-county, Rukungiri District.
The incident occurred on September 13, 2024, at around 6:00 PM in Kagorogoro Cell, Nyakagyeme Sub-county, along the Rukungiri-Rwerere-Kanungu Murram road.
The motorcycle involved, a red Bajaj Boxer with registration number UGE 192Y, was being ridden by an unidentified motorcyclist, who fled the scene. Two passengers who were on the motorcycle also remain unidentified.
It is alleged that the motorcyclist, carrying the two passengers, was traveling from the Kashenyi direction towards Rukungiri when he veered off his side of the road and struck the female victim, who was walking in the opposite direction. Sikola died at the scene.
Police in Rukungiri were notified, promptly visited and documented the scene, and impounded the motorcycle, which is now at Rukungiri Central Police Station pending an inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV). The victim’s body was transported to Rwakabengo Mortuary for a post-mortem. Investigations are ongoing.
