Barham Twineamasiko, the Managing Director of Transform Abafrica Product, issued a stern warning to onion farmers in Kamwezi Sub County of Rukiga district against the use of harmful chemical fertilizers and manure that degrade the soil. This caution came during a one-day onion farming workshop at St. James Buhangizi Church of Uganda Archdeaconry in Mutoojo village, Kigara parish, Kamwezi Sub-County in Rukiga.

The workshop aimed to equip farmers with knowledge on adopting environmentally-friendly and economically sustainable farming techniques. Twineamasiko emphasized the danger of using counterfeit fertilizers and highlighted the importance of employing Transform Organic Manure, citing its effectiveness in enhancing yields across various plant species and its suitability for diverse soil types.

Twineamasiko stressed that the use of harmful chemical inputs not only degrades soil quality and contaminates crops but also poses serious health risks to both farmers and consumers. He advocated for the regular application of quality chemicals to crops to optimize results.

During the workshop, Mpumwera Twine Hope, an onion farmer from Mutoojo village, Kigara parish, Kamwezi Sub-County, Rukiga district, raised concerns about the adverse effects of the scorching sun on their onion fields. She expressed worry that continued exposure to intense sunlight might lead to significant losses during harvest, as the relentless sunshine causes the plants to wilt and the bulbs to prematurely desiccate.
