The Nyakyera Town Council NRM Registrar, Steven Akankwasa, has been arrested over allegations of forging election results during the recently concluded LC3 sub-county and division elections.

Akankwasa is currently being detained at Nyakyera Police Post as investigations continue. Police say the arrest followed complaints from some aspirants who accused him of flouting the NRM Electoral Commission guidelines during Thursday’s polls.

According to the NRM electoral regulations, registrars are required to read results from each polling station using official declaration forms provided by village registrars. However, it is alleged that Akankwasa disregarded this procedure and instead used doctored results of his own, sparking chaos at the Nyakyera Town Council tally center.

The alleged actions led to confusion among candidates and supporters, prompting police intervention.

Authorities say more details will be released as the investigations progress.
