Residents of Masya Parish in Nyakagyeme Sub County, Rukungiri district, are deeply concerned about the deteriorating condition of Kimanyi Bridge, which collapsed long ago due to heavy rains.

Situated in Mabungo cell, Masya parish, the bridge serves as a crucial link to Ruhinda Sub County. However, its current state renders it impassable, causing significant difficulties in transporting patients and agricultural produce from the area.

Expressing their frustration, residents are contemplating a demonstration to address the negligence of the district regarding the bridge’s maintenance.

Hon. Obed Mayanja, the parish councilor for Masya parish and the speaker of Nyakagyeme Sub County, recalled the promises made by district councilors from both Ruhinda and Nyakagyeme to address the issue. Despite their assurances, no progress has been made.

Mayanja emphasized his support for the residents’ demonstration, criticizing the district and sub-county authorities for ignoring the pressing matter. He highlighted his disappointment upon discovering that the bridge’s rehabilitation wasn’t included in the district’s budget for the current fiscal year.

Mayanja urged district officials to prioritize the bridge’s repair as an emergency, stressing its detrimental impact on transportation within the area.

Efforts to contact district officials for comment on the situation were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
