The Ntungamo District Health Team has received 2,800 pairs of gum boots from the Ministry of Health to support Village Health Team (VHT) personnel in delivering health services at the community level.
Bahati Amon, the District Health Officer (DHO), said the gum boots are intended to equip every VHT member in the district, particularly during the rainy season when reaching households can be challenging. He emphasized that the boots are provided free of charge.
“The government is committed to ensuring that health services reach every village. These gum boots will make it easier for VHTs to carry out their work, even in difficult weather conditions,” said Bahati Amon. He further revealed that next year, the government plans to distribute free mosquito nets to every household in the district.
Jennifer Nalongo, a VHT for Cell 5 in Ntungamo Municipality, expressed her gratitude for the support. She noted that VHTs often face difficulties moving from house to house during the rainy season while educating communities on health matters.
“These gum boots will greatly ease our work and help us continue providing essential health information to the people,” she said.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen community health services and ensure that every household benefits from preventive health measures.
