Preparations for the one-year anniversary of the 6th North Kigezi Diocesan Bishop, Onesimus Asiimwe, are well underway, with plans for a grand event at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano on Sunday, March 17th, 2024. The announcement was made today during a press conference at the Bishop’s office, attended by Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe, Diocesan Secretary Rev. Erick Beingana Mugyezi, and Diocesan Head of Laity Abel Turyabe Matita.

Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe disclosed that the former Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon. John Patrick Amama Mbabazi, is expected to officiate as the guest of honor, with Bishop Johnson Twinomujuni delivering the sermon. He also revealed that all funds raised during the event, as well as contributions from churches across the Diocese, will be allocated towards resuming the construction of Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano, initiated by the late Bishop Benon Magyezi.

On the same day, Bishop Asiimwe visited and joined in the celebrations with the students of Kinyasano Girls High School, who were commemorating their 2023 UACE and UCE exams. He encouraged the students to prioritize their studies over distractions such as early marriage and warned against indulging in harmful activities like alcoholism.

The Bishop extended a warm welcome to the senior five students who had chosen Kinyasano Girls High School for their Advanced Level studies, expressing confidence in their decision. Reflecting on his first year as Bishop, he expressed gratitude for the progress made, including the revitalization of Church of Uganda schools and the spiritual renewal across the Diocese.

Allen Ekyiyasimire, the headteacher of Kinyasano Girls High School, expressed joy over the significant increase in enrollment and academic performance, thanking Bishop Asiimwe and the alumnae who have generously supported the school. She noted that enrollment had doubled from the previous year, reaching 609 students from the initial 314.

Canon Yosia Twirire, Chairperson of the Board of Governors of Kinyasano Girls High School, commended Bishop Asiimwe for his dedication to improving education standards within the North Kigezi Diocese, particularly at Kinyasano Girls High School, within just one year of assuming his role as Bishop.

During the celebration, outstanding students and teachers were recognized and rewarded for their contributions to the success of the school.
