The National Identification Registration Authority (NIRA) is expanding its presence by setting up branches in the districts of Rukiga and Rubanda, aiming to improve services and make them more accessible to locals.

Previously, these districts were under the jurisdiction of Kabale district. However, addressing concerns about the inconvenience faced by residents, Billy Basulwa, the District Registration Officer of NIRA-Kabale, announced this initiative during a workshop for district stakeholders from the Kigezi sub-region, held at Bunyonyi Safaris Resort in Kabale district.

Basulwa explained that the Kabale NIRA office had received numerous complaints from residents and leaders of Rubanda and Rukiga districts, who had to travel long distances to access NIRA services, incurring significant expenses. He suggested that those in need of NIRA services could currently visit the Electoral Commission offices at the district headquarters.

Basulwa assured that NIRA is actively working to establish independent offices in the mentioned districts, aiming to reduce the inconvenience experienced by residents.
