The parents and school authorities of Omurutooma Primary School in Kahooko Parish, Nyakishenyi Sub County, Rukungiri district, expressed delight following the inauguration of a new two-classroom block at their school, valued at 94 million Ugandan shillings.
Currently, Omurutooma Primary School has an enrollment of 151 pupils, according to school officials, who are now appealing to the government for further assistance in renovating other classrooms and toilets that are in poor condition. Charles Muhwezi Karukubiro, the chairperson of the school management committee, made this request.
The classroom block was officially opened by Rukungiri RDC Steven Nsubuga Bewayo, who urged parents and school committees to mobilize and increase school enrollment, now that there is adequate space available.
Julius Bagira, the Rukungiri district engineer, explained that the project, carried out by Kyondo Traders Limited, consists of one block with two classrooms, emphasizing the quality of work done.
Geoffrey Kyomukama, the Rukungiri district chairperson, encouraged parents to take advantage of the available infrastructure by sending their children to study at Omurutooma Primary School and supporting the government’s efforts.
Wednesday Twinomujuni, the Nyakyishenyi sub-county chairperson, expressed gratitude to the government for considering their area, highlighting that two primary schools have received new structures. He also requested that Nyarubale Primary School, which is in poor condition, be considered for assistance in the future.
Hillary Agaba, the deputy CAO of Rukungiri district, urged the school authorities to take responsibility for maintaining the facilities properly for the benefit of the pupils.
Jackson Turyahumura, the Rukungiri district education officer, emphasized to parents that education is crucial for a bright future, urging them to prioritize their children’s education.
Elizabeth Nsimenta, one of the directors of Kyondo Traders involved in constructing the classroom block, acknowledged the challenge of water scarcity during the project, which led to the renovation of the school’s water tank.
The ceremony was attended by various district officials, including the district secretary for education Hon. Keledonia Bakironda, Nyakishenyi sub-county district councilors, and parents.
