President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commended the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) for what he described as a swift and professional response in neutralizing security threats aimed at disrupting peace before, during, and after the recently concluded general elections.

The President made the remarks while addressing the nation during the 45th Tarehe Sita Anniversary celebrations held at the National Teachers’ College (NTC) Grounds in Kabale Municipality.

Museveni emphasized that national security remains a top priority in safeguarding stability and ensuring that democratic processes are conducted in a peaceful environment. He echoed sentiments earlier expressed by the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, noting that the role of security agencies is critical in maintaining law and order throughout the electoral period.

According to the President, the UPDF, working in coordination with other security agencies, successfully foiled plans by individuals he described as “troublemakers,” thereby ensuring a calm post-election atmosphere and safeguarding business and economic activities across the country.

He further revealed that intelligence reports had indicated alleged plans by some actors linked to opposition groups to incite unrest in several urban centers. However, he noted that security forces intervened in time to avert potential disturbances.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, described the 2026 General Elections as the most peaceful in Uganda’s history.

Gen. Kainerugaba congratulated Ugandans and President-elect Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on what he termed the successful conclusion of the electoral exercise. He added that Uganda’s democratic journey continues to mature, with citizens freely choosing their leaders through the ballot.

He reaffirmed the UPDF’s commitment to protecting the country’s security gains, supporting national development, and ensuring long-term peace and stability.
