Hon. Naboth Namanya, the Member of Parliament for Rubabo County, has encouraged hailstorm victims in Buyanja Sub County, Rukungiri District to remain patient as they await relief food and compensation, which is expected soon.
He conveyed this message on Thursday, September 26, 2024, during an assessment visit to witness firsthand the extent of the damage caused by recent hailstorms in Rubanga Parish. The purpose of the visit was to gather evidence to support his advocacy for relief aid.
Hon. Naboth emphasized a newly introduced government policy that mandates District Disaster Preparedness Committees to compile reports and submit them to the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness and the Office of the Prime Minister. He stressed the importance of ensuring high-quality reports and offered reassurance that relief aid would be delivered promptly.
Agaba Emmy Rubondo, the LC3 Chairperson of Buyanja Sub County, who accompanied the legislator, assured that his team would compile the report meticulously and follow up to ensure successful and transparent delivery of aid.
John Barigye, an elder and resident of Omukikoona Ibumba, shared his loss of 2.5 million Ugandan shillings, which he had spent to repair his house destroyed by the hailstorm. He urged the government to compensate those affected.
Geoffrey Mujuruzi, the LC1 Chairperson of Nyakasharara, praised Hon. Naboth for restoring hope among the community and highlighted the food insecurity challenges in the area.
Edith Tushemereirwe, a trader from Omukikoona Trading Center, described the ongoing issues with leaking roofs and the worsening food insecurity due to rising posho prices.
