The territorial police in Mitooma District are holding Francis Baguma, a 30-year-old resident of Buhasha B2 cell, Ryengyerero Parish, Rurehe Sub County, Mitooma District, on charges of selling cattle he received from Kazoora Foundation.
Kazoora Foundation, a charity established in memory of the late Eliasafu Kazoora, aims to support the development of churches, schools, bridges, and income-generating projects such as livestock, poultry, and piggery in Mitooma District.
Baguma was arrested following the public outcry after he sold a cow he had received from the Foundation at an event held at Omubugando playground. The cow was given to him with the condition that he would rear it and return the first delivery to be given to another beneficiary. Baguma’s failure to comply with this condition raised concerns.
Evalyn Ahimbisibwe Muhimbo, the Chairperson LC3 of Rurehe Sub County, confirmed that Baguma sold the cow for 1,800,000/= to purchase a motorcycle, violating the Foundation’s policy. Muhimbo reported the incident to Rurehe Police Post, after which Baguma was transferred to Mitooma Central Police Station.
Arthur Atuhweirire Kazoora, the Managing Director of Kazoora Foundation, stated that Baguma was arrested in response to public demand to combat corruption. He urged beneficiaries of the Foundation’s donations to use the resources appropriately to achieve the intended objectives.
He was charged under the file SDREF 32/02/07/2024.
