Mbarara district has embarked on relocating its offices from Mbarara city to the new administrative headquarters in Bwizibwera-Rutooma Town Council, about 35km from Mbarara city.

According to DidasTabaro the district chairperson, to facilitate a complete relocation, the district now needs up to Shs.7.5 billion to put up new administrative buildings.

Tabaro made the remarks as members of Parliament on the committee of Public Service and Local Government held a meeting with the City and Mbarara district leaders at Kamukuzi Council hall, Mbarara district headquarters yesterday.

He explained that the move followed current conflicts between the district and Mbarara City Council authorities over the ownership of properties that belonged to the district before the former municipality attained city status in 2021.

Nevertheless, he insisted that properties that include; Kakyeka stadium, Buildings housing Makerere Business School (MUBS), and Uganda Management Institute (UMI) within Mbarara City remain the property of the district.

Members of Parliament led by Patrick Isingoma Mwesigwa, the Hoima East division legislator, appreciated Mbarara District Local Government leaders who expressed readiness to relocate to the new district headquarters.

He now says it’s the task of the Ministry of Finance to expedite the process of releasing the money.
