Emmy Ngabirano, the Masindi RDC, has encouraged residents of Rukungiri to focus on value addition and efficient use of available resources and financial institutions to achieve success in their endeavors.
Ngabirano made this appeal during the 6th annual general meeting of the Rukungiri farmers SACCO at Hotel Riverside in Rukungiri Municipality. The meeting brought together SACCO delegates from various locations.
Ngabirano emphasized the role of financial institutions in promoting agriculture, suggesting that farmers could leverage these institutions to obtain funds for supporting value addition. He urged SACCO members to make the most of Rukungiri farmers SACCO, emphasizing its initial purpose of helping farmers transition from subsistence to commercial agriculture.
Additionally, Ngabira advised members to prioritize saving their income rather than relying solely on acquiring loans from financial institutions.
In a unique gesture during the meeting, each delegate received a hoe, while some also received Knapsack sprayers from Rukungiri farmers’ SACCO.
Patience Atuhaire, the SACCO general manager, explained that they chose hoes to support agriculture, aligning with the SACCO’s focus on farming. At the previous AGM, delegates were provided with mango seedlings to support fruit growing.
Agaba Andrew, the SACCO board chairperson, acknowledged the challenges the SACCO is currently facing, including insufficient liquidity, loan defaulters, and low savings, among other issues.
