Agaba Emmy Rubondo, the Chairperson of LC3 Buyanja Sub County in Rukungiri District, has expressed concerns over poor working conditions resulting from dilapidated infrastructure. He urged the Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC) to expedite the request for additional funding from the central government to complete the new Sub County premises.
Rubondo raised this appeal on Friday, September 27th, 2024, during a council session at the Buyanja Town Council conference, where the RDC was invited to preside over the awarding of certificates of appreciation to Sub County development partners.
In his address, Rubondo highlighted the poor working environment caused by a damaged roof, destroyed by a recent hailstorm. He called upon the RDC to advocate for a 50-million-shilling top-up to finalize the construction of the new Sub County premises in Buhandagazi Trading Center, Nyabitete Parish.
He also expressed gratitude to individuals, including the late Keith Muhakanizi, for their contributions towards the construction of the new Sub County premises. Their support complemented the 50 million shillings previously received from the central government. Rubondo announced plans to organize a fundraising event to complete the remaining work on the facility.
Rukungiri RDC, Rotarian Steven Nsubuga Bewayo, praised the unity among the Sub County councilors, which he said has greatly improved service delivery. He assured the councilors of his efforts to advocate for their demands and emphasized the value of the voluntary contributions made by individuals, urging the recipients of certificates of appreciation to treasure them for future recognition.
Afande Bernard Muzeeyi, the Officer-in-Charge of the Buyanja Police Post, highlighted the national recognition of Buyanja Police Post as a model service provider. He noted the increase in police officers to nine and announced plans to integrate the post with the Child and Family Protection Unit and a Traffic Intelligence Office soon.
Earlier in the Council session, Chairperson Rubondo and Sub County Chief Sarah Nuwagaba Yegabe expressed satisfaction with 100% service delivery during the previous financial year. However, Unice Kamya, the Woman Councilor representing Rwakirungura, and Bonny Tindyebwa, the Vice Chairperson of LC3, criticized the substandard performance of some technical staff.
