Residents of Rugyendwa Cell, Kyamakanda Parish, Buyanja Sub-county, and Rukungiri District have urged Olivia Tusingwire Kasanyu, their fellow resident, to either change her behavior or leave the area.

The call was made on Friday, 11th October 2024, during a security meeting chaired by LC3 Chairperson Emmy Agaba Rubondo at the home of Emmanuel Tirwakunda. The residents had organized the meeting to address several issues affecting their community, including witchcraft, theft, excessive alcohol consumption, and frequent fights. They accused Olivia Tusingwire Kasanyu of engaging in witchcraft and mistreating others.

During the meeting, Chairperson Agaba Rubondo mediated between the parties and called for reconciliation. He also criticized some LC1 chairpersons for neglecting their duties by not holding regular village meetings, which he said has contributed to the rise in crime. He appealed to the District Police Commander (DPC) to address the issue of residents bypassing the local council courts and going directly to the police, which he believes has worsened the situation.

Afande Bernard Muzeeyi, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Buyanja Police Sub Station, attributed the rising crime rates to idleness among the residents. He called for a change in mindset and encouraged hard work. Muzeeyi also announced plans to conduct patrols and arrest individuals found drinking alcohol before 1 PM and after 9 PM.

Bonny Tindyebwa, the Parish Councilor and LC3 Vice Chairperson, also called for reconciliation. He advised Olivia to learn from the situation and change her behavior, as her actions were negatively affecting her family.

Deo Ntwiga, the Chairperson of Sub County LC1 Chairpersons, urged Olivia to reflect on her behavior and to actively participate in family, church, and village meetings.

Kenneth Katabaguza, the LC1 Chairperson of Rugyendwa, encouraged the community to reconcile and unite for the sake of development, emphasizing the need to restore dignity to the area.

In response, Olivia Tusingwire Kasanyu attributed the accusations to personal disagreements with her father-in-law over family matters. She rejected the proposed reconciliation, stating her desire to maintain her family’s position.
