Residents of Kyaato Cell in Nyakitabire B Parish, Ruhinda Subcounty continue to raise voices demanding urgent action on the bridge connecting their area to River Njororo.

The bridge connects Ruhinda Subcounty with Bugangari, crossing River Njororo through Kyaato Cell in Nyakitabire B Parish, Ruhinda to Rugomera Cell in Nyabiteete Parish, Bugangari Subcounty. Residents say the deteriorating state of the bridge has hindered economic transformation activities such as trade and commerce, as well as affecting school children who cross daily vice versa from Ruhinda to Bugangari and back.

Speaking with Boona Radio, the Kyaato Cell LC1 Mr. Mutabazi Francis said that no matter the successful completion of NRM primaries elections, as affected residents, they still demand urgent action from the government and leaders to construct a permanent bridge as a way of supporting economic development and progress in the area. He expressed frustrations, saying that parents spend the whole day waiting for their children at the spot with the intention of helping them cross the deep waters.
Daphoroza Twinobusingye, also a resident from the area, assured Boona Radio that despite longstanding promises from their leaders, the bridge still hasn’t been constructed. She added that no matter Hon. Gim Muhwezi Katugugu’s promise to construct the bridge before the end of general elections, they still face a lot of challenges regularly while trying to cross the spot during their trade and marketing deals, as well as with their children going to school, who are at risk of drowning.

However, Ensi Egumire Johnson Bosco, one of the residents, while speaking to Boona Radio, expressed frustrations and dissatisfaction about the empty promises of their leaders, blaming them for the underdevelopment in terms of infrastructure and services in their area. He added that Minister Gim Muhwezi Katugugu promised to construct the Njororo Bridge, but he believes the promise was a deceptive move to gain votes during elections.

He therefore appealed to Boona Radio as the voice of the people to continue collaborating with them in demanding accountability from the government and its lazy leaders. Meanwhile, he concluded that they now see no reason to participate in elections and choosing leaders.
