Councilors in Kisoro district have expressed dismay over the perceived inactivity surrounding the Kibaya Industrial Park in Rukundo Town council, entrusted to the Uganda Investment Authority in 2022.

Agaba James, the Southern division councilor in Kisoro municipality, voiced disappointment at the lack of progress on the ground, despite expectations for groundwork in the current financial year. Agaba urged those responsible to prioritize the park’s development, as seen in other regions.

Deus Byamugisha, the Rubuguri Town council LCV councilor, attributed the delays to underdeveloped infrastructure. He emphasized the importance of addressing unreliable infrastructures to attract and retain investors, appealing to the government to prioritize infrastructure development for successful industrialization.

Nambajimana Alex, the vice LCV chairperson of Kisoro district, echoed the sentiment, urging the government to prioritize infrastructural development in the region to support industrialization. Kamara John Nizeyimana, the Member of Parliament for Bufumbira North, stressed the significance of value addition for the local population to benefit from the industrial park.

In response to these concerns, Mukiza Robert, the Director-General of Uganda Investment Authority, revealed that the industrial park’s development is scheduled for the next financial year in 2024/2025.

These discussions took place during the year-end gathering organized by the office of the LCV and Mukiza Robert, the Director-General of Uganda Investment Authority, at the Tourist Hotel in Kisoro district.
