Authorities in Kebisoni Sub County, Rukungiri District, are facing challenges in securing funds for the construction of Kitoha Bridge, which connects Kebisoni Sub County and Kebisoni Town Council.

The bridge is located at the boundary of Kebisoni Sub County and Kebisoni Town Council, specifically in Kitoha cell of Kigiro Parish for Kebisoni Sub County and Kitoha cell of Eastern Ward for Kebisoni Town Council.

During the Kebisoni Sub County Council session held on December 19, 2023, Councilors acknowledged that the construction of Kitoha Bridge exceeds the Sub County budget. As a result, they decided to escalate the matter to the District for funding or to engage in lobbying efforts.

Concerns about the safety of residents, particularly students and locals from Kabingo and Karuhembe Parishes, were raised during the session. Pastor Nimusiima Posiano, also the Chairperson LC3 Court Kebisoni Sub County, expressed worry, emphasizing the high population using this route to access Ndama hill, a hub for public institutions such as schools, health centers, and churches.

Hakimu Kamuhanda, a resident in the area, highlighted his attempts at individual and communal efforts to place stones on the bridge, but emphasized that the bridge requires substantial culverts and marum.

Charles Kahanyi, the Chairperson LC3 Kebisoni Sub County, affirmed the awareness of the challenges faced by the community. He reiterated that the Sub County lacks the financial means to address the issue and is reliant on the District for funding or support in lobbying efforts.

We currently have challenges with securing culvert crossings. There are several roads with the same challenge here in Kebisoni Town Council; Zavuga Kikoni road that links Buyanja subcounty with Kebisoni Town Council, Ruboroga that connects Ntungamo district with Kebisoni Town Council, Omukabare that connects Kebisoni Town Council with Kebisoni subcounty In my view, accessibility to markets as well as raw materials is key in development. Let’s work hand in hand to sort out such issues.
