The stalled project of Kebison seed secondary school in Rukungiri district has been awarded to a new contractor for completion.

According to the district engineer Mr. Bagira Julius, the project was on 29th August 2019 contracted to MUPA Technical Services Ltd at the tune of 2.1 billion and was supposed to be completed in one year.

However, after being awarded this contract MUPA Technical Services was affected by the outbreak of COVID-19 which slowed down the construction work at the site.

The contractor pleaded for the extension which was given to him more than two times but still even after the COVID pandemic, he proved no readiness to finish the project.

This forced the Rukungiri district leaders led by the Chief Administrative Officer to contact the office of the Solicitor General for guidance who tasked them to find a new contractor to accomplish the project.

On Wednesday, a new contract was given to Kinombe Construction Company limited at the tune of 472 million to finish the stalled project. Kinombe will install furniture, and electricity, and clear the playground among others in a period of six months but he promised to finish the project in 3 months.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, the Rukungiri district RDC who was also the chief guest Steven Nsubuga Bewayo expressed his gratitude for the project to get a new contractor and tasked them to work as per agreement and avoid doing shoddy work that might cost them.

The Kebison sub-county LC3 chairperson Charles Kahanyi tasked the district Authorities to deploy enough security at the site as the first constructor might be violent.  He said that the first contractor has also started taking materials to the site.

The school is expected to open for leaners in February 2024.
