Residents in Kashambya Subcounty, Rukiga District, are demanding the government to provide sufficient education support and facilities, citing a shortage of schools.

Residents say the government has failed to establish nearby educational institutions, leaving school children to trek long distances of over seven kilometres to access Kyeinde Primary School.

They note that government failure to continue supporting Mukyogo Amex Kyeinde Primary School under the Catholic Church has led to a collapse in academic performance, forcing many learners to drop out even before completing Primary Two due to exhaustion.

They further expressed concern over Ntaraga Primary School in Kakahoko Cell, Kitanga Parish, which they say is in a poor state with inadequate classrooms. Parents have started constructing a few classrooms through fundraising but lack iron sheets to complete them.

Led by Mr. Godet and Innocent Gumoshabe, the residents accused the government of neglecting education funding and called for urgent intervention, including better roads, education empowerment, electricity extension, and clean water sources.

However, Rukiga District LC5 Chairperson, Mr. Mbabazi Robert Kakwerere, dismissed the claims, saying the district has 71 church-founded but government-aided primary schools, with Kashambya Subcounty alone having over 20.

Kakwerere attributed delays in funding to limited government resources but blamed parents for neglecting their role in supporting education, leading to persistent poverty and unemployment in the area.
