The construction works to upgrade the Kanuuma Road in Ntungamo Municipality have been officially commissioned by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Ntungamo. The 2km road, which begins at Kyamate on the Ntungam-Mirama Hills Road and ends at Kaharata Road, is set to cost UGX 1.9 billion and is funded through the road fund maintenance grant.
During the commissioning ceremony at Kyamate on Wednesday, RDC cadre Mucunguzi issued a stern warning, threatening to arrest any technical and engineers found siphoning fuel or mismanaging the government-granted resources. He emphasized the road’s significance in facilitating trade and encouraged town dwellers to utilize it as part of their efforts to improve their economic situations.
Cadre Mucunguzi assured the local residents that there would be no compensation and urged them to be cooperative while monitoring and supervising the construction to ensure quality work and eliminate any substandard practices.
The Mayor of Ntungamo Municipality, Jacob Kafureeka, expressed gratitude to the central government for allocating road maintenance grants to municipalities and districts. He pledged to use the funds wisely and promised to address other divisions in the coming years as the grants continue.
Isaiah Tumwesigye committed to utilizing the granted funds efficiently for the benefit of the people of Ntungamo Municipality. Municipal Engineer Ankunzire Frank assured that the 2km road would be completed in a few months and expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Works for providing technical teams and graders to expedite the construction.
The commissioning event was attended by Deputy Mayor Kyomukama Loy Tumwesigye, Namanya Joshua Kansiime (President of Municipal Development Forum), LCIII Eastern Division Chairperson Provia Barugahare, and various technical staff, among others.
