Police in Kanungu district are investigating a suspected case of suicide involving a 37-year-old man.
The deceased, identified as Nkamwesiga Victor, a resident of Rutooma cell, Kashojwa parish in Rugyeyo sub-county, was discovered on the morning of Sunday, August 17, 2025, hanging on a jackfruit tree near his home.
According to police, Victor had gone missing from home on Saturday, August 16, only to be found dead the following morning.
Kigezi region police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed the incident, noting that preliminary information suggests the deceased had a history of seasonal mental illness and had previously received treatment at Katate Health Centre IV.
Police visited and documented the scene as investigations continue.
ASP Maate extended condolences to the family and urged the public to be more vigilant in supporting community members battling mental health challenges.
