The management of Kahororo Primary School in Rukungiri Municipality has raised concerns over the lack of staff quarters, which has become a significant challenge.

Nsimenta Boaz, the PTA chairperson, and Tugiine Wilberforce, the chairperson of the school management committee, expressed their worries, stating that the absence of staff accommodation affects teachers, especially after the introduction of remedial lessons. Some teachers struggle to attend these lessons regularly due to the long distances they travel to school.

They noted that many teachers rent houses in Rukungiri town, about 4 km from the school, and spend approximately 8,000 UGX daily on transport. As a result, a significant portion of their salary is spent on commuting.

With an increasing enrollment of about 700 pupils, the school leadership believes having teachers residing nearby would enhance security and create a better learning environment.

They also urged parents to cooperate and support the school to improve learning conditions.

Although the government provides tuition fees, they emphasized that this funding is insufficient to cover all school needs. Parents should therefore contribute in various ways to ensure their children receive quality education and services.

Kahororo Primary School head teacher, Mr. Musinguzi Naftari, highlighted additional challenges, including parents failing to fulfill commitments made during meetings. These include supporting remedial lessons, hiring night watchmen, and paying private teachers who supplement the school’s inadequate teaching staff.

He reminded parents that these services directly benefit their children and urged them to support the school for better educational outcomes.

Naftari further emphasized that the lack of staff quarters is a major issue, as teachers spend a lot on transport due to the long distances they travel.

He appealed to the relevant authorities to provide staff quarters to ensure the smooth operation of the school.
