The Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) has announced plans to revive its operations in the Western region with an initiative known as the Direct to Home service project.
This announcement was made on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, by a team of officials from the Corporation during a regional tour to assess the status of transmission centers at Mugamba Hill in Kyaruyenje Parish, Buhunga Sub County, Rukungiri District.
The revival aims to enhance the quality of radio and television broadcasts, both digital and analog, ensuring that all families can access the country’s media services. Dr. Bob Rich Macumi, the Technical Signet Manager at UBC, explained that the Corporation had previously been shut down due to licensing issues. However, they are now planning to relaunch the service free of charge before the upcoming general elections to ensure proper monitoring at the household level.
Ms. Tezira Jamwah, the Chairperson of the Human Resource Committee at UBC, called on Ugandans to pray for the government’s support to facilitate the installation, so people can receive adequate information about government programs.
Hon. Mary Paula Turyahikayo Kebirungi, former Rubabo County Woman Member of Parliament and a member of the UBC Finance Committee expressed her gratitude to President Museveni and his cabinet for their support of the Corporation. She urged for prompt funding to ensure operations commence before August this year. She also emphasized the importance of media practitioners adhering to regulations to disseminate credible information and support government initiatives.
Residents near the Mugamba Transmission Center will benefit from electricity provided by the Corporation, and the road connecting to the site will be maintained.
