In an effort to promote reading and boost the capacity of primary schools in Rukungiri District, Hon. Natukunda Medius Kaharata, the Rukungiri District Woman Member of Parliament, has donated dozens of textbooks to selected schools in the area.

The beneficiary schools include Munyeganyegye Primary School in Nyakagyeme Sub-county and Keihumure Primary School in Buhunga Sub-county. During the handover, Hon. Natukunda emphasized her commitment to improving the education standards in the district, noting that education is the key to success.

In addition to the textbooks, she also provided school uniforms for pupils who were without, as a way to motivate them in their education journey. Pens were also donated, and she wished all Primary Seven candidates success as they prepare to sit for their Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) early next month. She expressed her belief that the books would make a meaningful contribution to enhancing the performance of the pupils.

Hon. Medius explained that this was her second donation of textbooks to schools in Rukungiri District, following a similar initiative last week in schools within Kebisoni Sub-county. She encouraged pupils to set goals in their studies and work hard to achieve them.

Naome Atuhumwize, the head teacher of Keihumure Primary School, and Benson Mugisha, the head teacher of Munyeganyegye Primary School, expressed their gratitude for the donations. They noted that the scholastic materials would greatly benefit learners, many of whom have struggled due to a lack of support from their parents. Both head teachers commended Hon. Natukunda for her ongoing support and pledged to use the textbooks effectively to improve learners’ performance.

Francis Kamugisha, the PTA chairperson at Keihumure Primary School, also expressed his appreciation for Hon. Medius’s dedication to the welfare and education of their pupils. He highlighted some of the challenges the school is facing, such as a shortage of furniture, staff quarters, and adequate latrines. He thanked Hon. Medius for pledging to complete the painting of their newly constructed school building.
