Mary Paula Turyahikayo, the former Rubabo County legislator and current aspirant for the Rukungiri district woman MP seat, emphasized the crucial role of peaceful marriages in fostering church development and improving living standards.
She addressed this topic to hundreds of congregants at Nyakagyeme Church of Uganda in the Nyakagyeme archdeaconry of the North Kigezi diocese during their Marian Day celebration.
Turyahikayo highlighted that couples who love and support each other contribute to a stronger church and enhanced living conditions.
In addition, Irene Tumwesigire, the Mothers’ Union coordinator for the North Kigezi diocese, urged women to obey their husbands, drawing a parallel to Mary’s humility and obedience to God’s will. Tumwesigire also called on men to love their wives and fulfill their responsibilities, condemning domestic violence as contrary to God’s intention for peaceful families.
Prior to her visit to Nyakagyeme Church of Uganda, Turyahikayo attended Pentecost Day celebrations at Nyakibale Catholic Parish in Kabale diocese and All Saints Church of Uganda in North Kigezi diocese. During these visits, she announced her candidacy for the Rukungiri woman MP seat and pledged to prioritize good service delivery and socio-economic empowerment if elected.
