Former Minister of State for Agriculture and Forestry, Prof. Patrick Rubaihayo Rutimbanzigu, who served under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry during the government of Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), is elated to witness the transformation in education in Kashari county. He recalls his efforts in the 1980s to advocate for the establishment of schools in the area, which were previously lacking educational facilities.

During his tenure, Prof. Rutimbanzigu identified the absence of secondary schools in Kashari county, Mbarara district, and successfully lobbied the government to establish several primary and secondary educational institutions. Notable among these are Rutooma Secondary School, Rwantsinga High School, Kashaka Girls’ Secondary School, Nombe Secondary School, Rwentanga Farm Institute, and Kakiika Technical Institute (excluding Kitengure Teachers Training College for Girls, which is no longer operational).

The recent developments at Rwantsinga High School in Rubaya sub-county, hailed as one of the most conducive secondary schools offering quality education to all, especially vulnerable learners, prompted Prof. Rutimbanzigu to reflect on his past endeavors.

The current Head Teacher of Rwantsinga High School, Simon Twinamatsiko, proudly announced initiatives such as offering bursaries and engaging students in manual labor to generate school fees through brick-making projects. This approach has enabled committed learners to pursue higher education and university studies.

Twinamatsiko expressed optimism about the school’s enrollment for the first term of 2024, with over two hundred fifty new learners registered within the first two days, excluding senior students who are yet to report.

He commended the school’s founders for their visionary planning, allowing the admission of eager and disciplined students. Twinamatsiko also appreciated parents who choose Rwantsinga High School for their children, emphasizing the institution’s focus on vocational skills development, enabling students to engage in income-generating activities and contribute to their families’ welfare.
