There was a fire outbreak in Kabwohe town, Sheema District, destroying property worth millions.
The fire started around 1:30 AM at a shop along the Mbarara-Kabwohe stage, with residents noticing smoke coming from the rooftop.
Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi Police, said that the Sheema police team was notified and promptly responded to the scene for rescue operations.
A fire team from the Bushenyi region also managed to extinguish the fire. Only one block was mainly affected, while other blocks remained safe.
According to Tumusiime, the affected shops included Birakali Elioda’s wholesale general merchandise shop, Mucungunzi Jackson’s boutique, and Muhereza Nathan’s mini supermarket.
Preliminary police findings suggest that an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause.
