Leaders in Ntungamo district have praised the successful implementation of the Emyooga program, noting the emergence of numerous competitive Saccos within just three years since its inception. Geoffrey Mucunguzi, the Resident District Commissioner of Ntungamo, highlighted this achievement during a meeting of the Ruhaama Produce Dealers Omwooga Sacco, emphasizing the program’s alignment with its intended goals.
Mucunguzi expressed that the growing prominence of Emyooga Saccos indicates the effectiveness of the presidential initiative. He cautioned that traditional Saccos might face challenges if they fail to meet the standards and adjust their interest rates to remain competitive, as many Emyooga Saccos are seeking permanent operating licenses.
Grace Atwiine, the Manager of Ntungamo Microfinance Support Centre, highlighted the substantial government funding, amounting to close to 3 billion shillings, allocated to the establishment of 85 Emyooga Saccos in the district. She emphasized their efforts to enhance capacity and compete with traditional Saccos for business opportunities.
Hellen Rugasira, Chairperson of Ruhaama Produce Dealers Sacco, noted Sacco’s diversification into value addition, wherein members collectively market their produce, resulting in increased income generation.
