The Kabale territorial police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 25-year-old Richard Turinawe, a resident of Rwakakyeregye village, Bugarama parish, Kaharo sub-county in Kabale district.

It’s reported that Turinawe had been involved in multiple instances of domestic violence against his parents. His parents had allegedly sought help from local leaders and law enforcement, and Turinawe had recently been released from prison.

On April 11, 2024, around 2:00 PM, Turinawe reportedly attacked his stepfather, Sinema Wensislus, by biting his mouth. In response, Wensislus and Turinawe’s biological mother, Twekwasomuhangi Resta, sought help from motorcycle taxi riders from Nyakigugwe stage. They apprehended Turinawe and tied him up at his mother’s vegetable kiosk.

Allegedly, Wensislus, Resta, Turinawe’s stepbrother Mugisha, and others assaulted Turinawe with a hoe handle, one by one, until he requested water. After being untied by his stepfather, Turinawe staggered to a nearby water tap at Nyakigugwe primary school and collapsed, dying instantly.

Wensislus and Resta arranged for Turinawe’s body to be placed in a coffin, taken home, and buried the following day, April 12, 2024, around 8:00 AM.

The incident was brought to the attention of the Officer in Charge of Kaharo police station, who then informed the District Police Commander in Kabale. Detectives were dispatched to investigate the crime scene and document evidence. Resta was arrested, while others involved are currently being pursued, with ongoing efforts to apprehend them.

The investigation is ongoing, and there are plans for exhumation as part of the process.
