In a significant update to the ongoing case against Twinomuhangi Angello Bagorogoza, the Magistrate’s Court of Kabale has postponed the hearing scheduled for today, August 1st, to August 6th and 7th, 2024. The postponement follows the recent death of Bagorogoza’s mother-in-law, a development that led to a request for an adjournment by his defense lawyer, Nasiima Patience.

Bagorogoza faces serious charges of theft and obtaining money by false pretenses. The prosecution alleges that he misappropriated UGX 440 million from Turyahikayo Rwihunga and Hon. Turyahikayo Kebirungi between October 2020 and February 2021. The funds were supposedly meant for the purchase of land at Rwakaraba Plot 35, but the accused is accused of deceitfully acquiring the money without completing the transaction.

On August 1, 2024, His Worship Olupot Pascal, the Magistrate Grade One, reviewed the case’s progress. The court had previously determined that there was a prima facie case against Bagorogoza, meaning the evidence presented was sufficient to require him to provide a defense. However, today’s proceedings were affected by personal circumstances.

Nasiima Patience, Bagorogoza’s legal representative, informed the court of the family tragedy, requesting an adjournment. Magistrate Olupot Pascal granted the request, recognizing the right to a fair trial and the need for the defendant to attend to personal matters. The hearing will now resume on August 6th and 7th, 2024.

This delay grants Bagorogoza additional time to prepare his defense, while the prosecution maintains its stance that sufficient evidence exists to substantiate the charges. The court’s decision to adjourn underscores its commitment to balancing legal proceedings with personal considerations.
