Conservationists are urging the government to raise awareness among the public about regulations and policies safeguarding wetlands and their inhabitants, given their significant contributions to the country’s development.

This call was made on Wednesday during the Population Health Environment (PHE) learning workshop, held at Cephas Inn Hotel in Kabale Municipality. The workshop was organized by the International Crane Foundation (ICF) and the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) in collaboration with the Margaret Pyke Trust and Rugarama Hospital.

Dr. Adalbert Aine-omucunguzi, the East African Regional Manager for the International Crane Foundation, led the conservationists in emphasizing the need for government and other stakeholders to educate the public on the importance of wetlands. They stressed that wetlands are delicate resources that require protection to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change.

Emmanuel Ariho, the Environment Officer for Rukiga District, highlighted the efforts to educate locals on wetlands and other ecosystems. He emphasized the importance of enforcing policies and regulations if the public refuses to comply.
