Tragedy struck the residents of Nyarushanje sub-county in Rukungiri district on Tuesday evening with the grim discovery of a deceased toddler, purportedly two years old.
The body was spotted by commuters returning home from work, found floating near the Kamirantende bridge linking Nyarushanje and Nyakishenyi subcounties.
Police were alerted, prompting Rukungiri CPS to notify Nyakishenyi police post for retrieval and transportation of the body to Rwakabengo Health Center 3 for postmortem examination.
Police have initiated investigations to determine the cause of death while actively seeking to locate the child’s parents for proper identification and arrangements for a dignified burial.
