Hon. Naboth Namanya, the Rubabo County Member of Parliament, has encouraged Boda Boda riders to negotiate a memorandum of understanding with fuel service providers for dividend sharing, as a way of giving back to their clients.

He made this appeal on Monday, 30th September 2024, while officiating the general elections of the Kebisoni Sub County Boda Boda leadership at the Kebisoni Town Council playground in Rukungiri District.

Hon. Namanya emphasized the significant contribution of fuel revenue generated by the Boda Boda industry and the ready transportation services it provides. He urged riders to adopt digital number plates for enhanced safety and monitoring, as well as to enroll in health insurance programs for affordable medical care. He further stressed the importance of negotiating with fuel service providers for revenue sharing, highlighting the profits earned by petrol station owners from the Boda Boda industry.

Geoffrey Kyomukama, the LC5 Chairperson of Rukungiri District, advised the riders to appreciate and support the government for creating a conducive working environment. He emphasized the importance of customer care and condemned the practice of over-speeding, noting the frequent loss of lives caused by reckless riding.

Alex Nathan Mugabe, the Mayor of Kebisoni Town Council, praised the leadership skills displayed by the Boda Boda leadership team. He called for adherence to traffic rules and regulations and condemned individuals who ride recklessly, ignoring the laws.

Corporal Natima Daniel Salongo, the Deputy Officer in Charge of Traffic in Rukungiri, expressed concern over the high number of motorcycle-related fatalities, revealing that two women had died this month and 39 lives had been lost since January this year. He advocated for regular sensitization meetings to educate riders on traffic laws and safe riding practices.

Julius Kahigiriza, the Rukungiri District Vice Chairperson of the Boda Boda Riders Association, who presided over the elections, acknowledged the peace and unity within Kebisoni Sub County. He encouraged the riders to diversify their income by engaging in farming and educating their children, to better prepare for retirement.

Kabangira Alex Makara, the newly elected Chairperson, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead. He pledged to demonstrate strong leadership, unity, and commitment among the newly elected team to foster solidarity with riders across the sub-county and beyond.

The newly elected Boda Boda leadership team is composed of Kabangira Alex Makara as Chairperson, Ben Kataramire as Vice Chairperson, Orikiriza Issa Kasaramu as Secretary, Tugaineyo Steven Kintu as Vice Secretary, Muhamadi Katundu as Treasurer, Gumisiriza Aggrey as Publicity Secretary, and Justus Arinaitwe as Advisor.

The discipline committee is headed by Amanya Derick, with committee members Begumanya Nicholas Kashuma, Ruth Magyerane, and Akabaho Lamech.
