Boda boda riders in Rukungiri Municipality have been advised to adopt a culture of saving if they are to fully benefit from their work and improve their livelihoods.
This call was made during the launch of Kitaziguruka Junction Boda Boda Stage in Kanyinya Ward, Southern Division, where Hon. General Henry Tumukunde, the guest of honour, praised the contribution of boda boda riders to Uganda’s economy. He encouraged them to organize themselves, embrace saving, and consider importing spare parts collectively through their associations—promising his full support towards such initiatives.
Rukungiri Municipality Boda Boda chairperson, Tumwesigye Joseph Bajuzi, urged riders to treat boda boda work as a serious business and diversify their sources of income by engaging in productive activities such as farming. He emphasized hard work and discipline as key to success.
Atuhaire Patience, chairperson of the newly launched stage, said their primary aim is to foster development among members through saving and access to small-interest loans. She noted that the stage currently has over 100 registered members and called for unity and cooperation among them.
Members also pledged to uphold discipline, cleanliness, and professionalism to enhance the public image of their work.
